Björk Takes to the Decks

Over the weekend, the very fantastic experimental label Tri Angle Records hosted their fifth birthday party in New York as part of RBMA Festival.

There were lots of cool peeps on the bill - The Haxan Cloak, Evian Christ, Vessel, Mssingno, Holy Other, Lotic, and so on - but one name not on the bill was Björk, who has become quite good pals with label head Robin Carolan since they worked together behind-the-scenes on 'Vulnicura'.

Björk's unscheduled appearance saw her take to the decks, dance around, and generally have a whale of a time while wearing a very Björk-ish disguise.

Cannibals of Style

Before BLAT there were, Cannibals of Style

From 1986 to 1990 Phil collaborated separately with Scot Mcphee and John Prendergast. The gradual acquisition of recording equipment, synthesizers, samplers and sequencers began a shift towards a more structured, less improvised sound. A vinyl single was made with Scot in 1988 as Cannibals of Style. A side “Loaded Gun” featuring Jeff Duff on vocals. The B side, an instrumental piece called “Rediffusion”. Scot & Phil also performed on occasion at The Gunnery. Musically, this collaboration was best described as quirky synth pop although Scot was leaning heavily towards electronic dance and techno.
