From 1986 to 1990 Phil
collaborated separately with Scot Mcphee and John Prendergast. The
gradual acquisition of recording equipment, synthesizers, samplers
and sequencers began a shift towards a more structured, less
improvised sound. A vinyl single was made with Scot in 1988 as
Cannibals of Style. A side “Loaded Gun” featuring Jeff
Duff on vocals. The B side, an instrumental piece called
“Rediffusion”. Scot & Phil also performed on occasion at The
Gunnery. Musically, this collaboration was best described as quirky
synth pop although Scot was leaning heavily towards electronic dance
and techno.
